This week’s Freebie Friday giveaway is a page of Indigenous games! These games provide a fun variation on more commonly-known western games like chasey, hide-and-seek, tunnel ball etc. As well as being an enjoyable and effective way to burn energy, this hands-on approach is a great way to teach students about this part of Indigenous culture.

Based on the life of co-author Jenny Kay Dupuis’ grandmother, I Am Not a Number is a hugely necessary book that brings a terrible part of Canada’s history to light in a way that children can learn from and relate to.

INSTRUCTION: Fatty Legs Webinar Series provides two webinars that provide context to Fatty Legs, a novel about residential school. There are also resources for teachers to do a novel study such as chapter questions, and visual imagery activities. I was considering teaching this novel during my practicum, and look forward to going through these additional resources to be better prepared. The webinar quality is low, but still has valuable information, and the resources are great.

Describes the creation of the rivers, is the second in a series of Northwest Coast legends. A young Gitxsan hunter, is intent on catching a group of swans with his bare hands. He is carried away by the birds' powerful wings and dropped in the clouds. With only a cedar box of water Astace wanders the clouds, growing weaker, stumbling and spilling the contents. Couldn't find a good image, but it's a wiki with lots and lots of organized resource links.
