Owen Kim - The minimal illustrations seem to deliver the story of book well. In my opinion, the story might be that a boy wants to be free from a city of life. The shapes of buildings would represent the city, and the boy is looking the other sky on the top of buildings. As a result, visual metaphor seems to be used to give some ideas of the book. The constrained image shows the message of the book appropriately.
Owen Kim - The poster design simplifies and recreates the work of Le Corbusier of modern architecture’s most famed structures, Notre Dame du Haut. The black and white graphics seem to deliver the feeling of inside of the building because the inside of building is generally dark, and the sunlight come from the windows, white space. Therefore, the poster would be a great example of constrained visual language.
Owen Kim - This minimalist poster design presents entering the new world. Also, visual metaphors seem to be used in space and ladder. The meaning of space would be the unknown world, and also ladder would be climbing. As a result, the poster would show getting into the new world. Moreover, the texts, 2010 Happy New Year, assist the meaning of poster. Thus, the visual metaphors of constrained images make the design to have a meaning.
Owen Kim - This example shows a beautifully minimal poster of Paris transit systems. This representational constrained image gives a strong message through a metaphor. The minimal illustration of transit system would represent the image of Paris well. = We could understand what is this shows with the transit system image with the text of PARIS. Thus, in this case, the text of PARIS seems to be important because it would enhance the understanding the poster.
Owen Kim - In this example, the shape of building structures have been symbolized the piano keyboards. I like the white keyboards in the shape of building structures, and one of the black keyboards is a human form, and the texture of the background may represent the mood of the movie as well. Thus, the illustrations and background definitely tell a great story that matches the theme.
Owen Kim - The book cover for Wet Apples, White Blood by Naomi Guttman uses constrained visual language in visually displaying the title of the novel. Although there is no shape of an apple, we would feel the apple because the apple is described in background with red color. Also, the dripping liquid would represent the wetness. The simplified design and a good amount of white space would make the poster look clear.
Owen Kim - This example was created by NASA, and it shows the sequence of a shuttle mission. The sequence is described with illustrations. In this case, we would understand the sequence well because there are some descriptions to enhance and explain the process of space shuttle mission. In addition, pictogram is also used in shape of an airship shed and launcher. Thus, people would understand the sequence of mission at a time
Owen Kim - In this case, it uses stop motion that would be another method of graphic sequence. It does not have many slides, but we can understand the sequence very well because it shows the process of having umbrella as well as getting cloudy in background. From this example, I learned using background to create a fluent sequence.
Owen Kim - This example shows the graphical representation of implanting hot balloon using illustrations. Also, this would be stop motion because it presents some pictures in sequence. Even if this example does not have many slides, we can understand the process well because each illustration has been carefully drew to display a fluent graphic sequence.
