Gorgeous 'baju kebaya', the traditional costume for the Nyonyas, the early settlers of Melaka. The 'Baba (men) and Nyonya (women) are the descendants of the Portuguese settlers that married the locals. Their unique culture truly makes Melaka a land filled with a kaleidoscope of colours and art.

One of the quirky sights only found in Melaka! Do check out Mod's Cafe that operates out of a refurbished mod van. The coffee is delish! Spend a few minutes to chat with the owner and you'd be surprised with some of the stories he'd tell.

Wooden clogs or 'terompah' were once commonly used by the women folk in Melaka. They're not very comfortable to wear but it was cheap enough to be afforded by the masses. Nowadays, you can bring back home as a souvenir to be put up in a frame or adorn your coffee table.

It's easy to forget that Melaka was once a laid-back fishing village that survived mainly from the marine industry. Try to take a short ride to the coastal areas and you may just come across an old Malay fisherman coming back from the sea with his bounty. Great photo op!

Coconut shell souvenirs, peeps? I'd take one home. They're cheap and quite light. Just pack them a bit more carefully.
