I was cared for by my grandmother. These treasured moments were often spent in her prized garden, and hours learning handicrafts such as crochet, passed down to her from her ancestors. Inaugural Roots combines crochet woven into the cracks and hollows of organic debris in an attempt to transcend grief and celebrate her memory. Sophia Scuderi, Inaugural Roots

Protecting Animals Worldwide (P.A.W) is a campaign I’ve created to increase public awareness of the ill treatment of animals. Inspired by the quote, ‘Speak for those without a voice’, I created a series of drawings that address how humans exploit and abuse animals. I subvert the images to create narratives that empower the animals and produce merchandise like badges, t-shirts and postcards that promote the cause of animal cruelty to the wider public. Sonia Calpakam, (P.A.W)

My illustrations explore concepts of beauty and the female form. Facial symmetry is a physical attribute that signifies beauty, and my work critiques how the fashion industry perpetuates this ideal. Although unique characteristics of models are now celebrated – they all generally still look the same. Thin physiques, high cheekbones, full lips and an overall symmetrical visage. Influenced by fashion sketches. Rhiannon Ognen, Identical Army

Miscreated is a range of unique and colourful products designed to abstract the ordinary. The products seem familiar and contemporary but closer inspection reveals hidden weird and wonderful creatures. Inspired by evolution and modified genetics the mutated organisms are juxtaposed with contemporary colours and patterns creating a beautifully monstrous range. Milly Leighton- Janse,Miscreated

Fairytale Night is an illustrated storybook that explores the moment that a fairytale comes to life at night. I tried to create a dream world by combining mystical illusions, such as a mermaid meeting a little girl before bedtime and a unicorn giving her a ride. The little girl wears modern dresses and the oriental scenery is inspired by my Korean childhood. Michelle Lee, Fairytale Night.

My work illustrates the tension between being both the artist and subject of the artwork. Developing anxiety in my adolescent years has led me to produce tedious, labour intensive works, which help to release my negative emotional states. Tebori is a traditional Japanese method of tattooing by hand. Madeline Wood, Tebori

I am obsessed by the madness of the modern world, driven by materialism. I have chosen to express society’s hoarding habits, attachment to the inanimate and constant consumerism, through these collected items. Materialist habits stimulate our inclination to purchase, to collect, to treasure the broken and unwanted that holds no value. Kim Iligan, Everything You Always Never Wanted

My practice draws inspiration from my Italian heritage. The textile series Sediments manipulates a painterly aesthetic, using old craft materials and embroidered threads. I recycle sewing cotton used by generations of women in my family and weave it into abstract designs. Influenced by Venetian architecture, the series attempts to demystify traditional craft processes through the deconstruction of the fabric matrix. Jessica Costa, Sediments
