The Woolshed Loft, Ayrburn | HOSPITALITY | The Loft, a members' only room within the upper floor of the Woolshed features a cosy lounge recess and several banquette style tables catering to larger groups. Principal Jeremy Bull says, "Above The Woolshed at Ayrburn there is a loft which takes the shape of a long, low-hung corrugated gable. With stained oak walls and a slightly mid century furniture language, the room has a particular intimacy - a posture of quiet conversations and late nights."⁠⁠

The Woolshed Loft, Ayrburn | HOSPITALITY | Principal Jeremy Bull writes, "It's taken me a long time to get familiar with the scale of the rural language of Queenstown. It is low hung and slinky. ⁠There is no shame in ducking or leaning down. I learned this first in a residential project we built in Queenstown's Speargrass Road some years ago and now it reoccurs in Ayrburn Slanted eaves and cozy corners, compliance be-gone."⁠

The Manure Room, Ayrburn | HOSPITALITY | Our Principal Jeremy Bull talks about the design intention of The Manure Room at Ayrburn, “The space was conceived early in its life as a wine bar and cellar door. We imagined a wall of joinery which could make the wine bottles feel like a showcase of jewels. ⁠In this case, a burnt timber jewel box and corner of the room which was anchored to the schist stone flagstone and house the various visual curiosities which would be collected along the way.”⁠

We are excited to introduce Ayrburn a new world class food and wine destination across 30 acres of Queenstown’s Arrowtown. The Manure Room was once upon a time the historic Ayrburn Farm’s location for an end of day tipple. Working to restore the building - complete with its bending timber eaves, The Manure Room is now a blush and burgundy wine bar; each piece of heritage timber precisely repositioned and inhabited with new hand made furniture in wool and boucle, stained oak and walnut.”⁠

Park House | HOSPITALITY | Speaking to the courtyard at this venue Principal Jeremy Bull writes, "Park House was a curious sort of refurbishment and renovation of an old motel and pub.⁠ We had ideas of the building being very robust, kind of simple and breezy. It was our attempt to bring a story to Mona Vale which was sympathetic but still creatively ambitious. The courtyard is a combination of recycled brick work and our ‘reverse stud’ detail all under a retractable roof."⁠

Imperial Hotel | ⁠HOSPITALITY | Principal Jeremy Bull writes, "The rear corner of the old Imperial Hotel used to be a make-up room that opened onto a performance stage. It was a black clad room and old timber stage which although wonderfully storied, was inadequate for the new venue. ⁠We instead removed the ceiling and added a courtyard to this location, complete with tumbled stone pavers and old brick arches cast into the new walls."⁠

Tilly May's | HOSPITALITY

Tilly May's | HOSPITALITY | Principal Jeremy Bull says, "It’s difficult to understand in this view, but the ceiling above the bar upstairs at Tilly May's is an entirely operable tensile roof. It can open to show the stars at night, and an umbrella is brought out during the day to keep the bar tenders out of the glare. ⁠Because of this, the whole floor needed to be waterproof and also resilient to rain. The chequer plate marble is our answer to this."⁠

Ayrburn | HOSPITALITY | Ayrburn Farm, established in 1867, was one of the first farms in the Queenstown area and continued to be one of the most successful with production continuing until the early years of the 21st century. Here the reconstructed Manure Room can be seen with its ‘wonky’ roof shrouded in the new and old, ancient oak trees and a grove of 200 year old sequoia.”⁠

Harbord Hotel | HOSPITALITY | "The ceiling in Harbord Hotel Balsa dining room is an acoustically separated timber lining with insulation above," our Principal Jeremy Bull explains.⁠"I was slightly resistant to this solution which when we set out was intended to be built in balsa timber, principally based upon the cost to the client and not that it wasn’t a great acoustic resolution. An image of an Alvar Aalto ceiling was enough to convince me that ours would work.“⁠
