NoMad is an interior alteration to an industrial building within the inner city of Sydney. The three bedroom warehouse apartment has been conceived as a contemporary, urban oasis, a gentle and ambient gallery within the hustle of the city. The space is inspired by the sculptural language of modernist artist Brancusi and his eclectic studio.

NoMad | RESIDENTIAL | The rooms of this adapted apartment in the inner city suburbs of Sydney feel atmospheric, calming, and sculptural. Our Principal Jeremy Bull writes, “When you start to explore what stillness looks like, you build a selection of materials, palettes, shapes and forms that talk to it. If you were to say stillness has a smoothness, a tonality, a texture, a calmness, what you’re dealing with is not a material brief but an ambient brief around what it could look like."

Nomad | RESIDENTIAL | The sculptural language of this apartment is carried into the bathroom by the @concretenation Como concrete basin, rather than a wall-fixed vanity. The freestanding vanity has a statuesque presence further complemented by the height and arch of the Astra Walker floor mounted mixer.

NoMad | RESIDENTIAL | One of Russia's leading interior design magazines @interiorplusdesign recently featured our NoMad project across its latest issue. Managing Editor Julia Kudrevatova writes, "The interior is conceived as an artist's workshop, a gallery of bold and harmonious man-made forms."

NoMad | RESIDENTIAL | Est Living Features Writer Holly Beadle says of the apartment space, "spacious volumes and expressive shapes render it a private gallery, encouraging anyone who visits to treat it as such. The theme which underpins the interiors is that of wandering – through the spaces and one’s thoughts." Discover more via https://alexanderand.co/projects/nomad/

NoMad | RESIDENTIAL | We love to see our NoMad bathroom as a case study in The Detail section of the latest Est Living magazine. The sculptural language of this apartment is carried into the bathroom with the Nood Co concrete pedestal basin, which holds a statuesque presence alongside the Astra Walker floor mounted mixer.

NoMad | RESIDENTIAL | Pictured is a nook to work, relax or take in the light show that takes place as the morning sunlight comes in through the windows. The Bond bookshelf in walnut @fogiacollection from @fredinternational is filled with treasured ceramics and books. The hero here is Marissa Purcell's 'Replenish' acrylic on linen artwork. Her work is a contemplation of light and colour and the varying and sometimes simultaneous perceptions we are capable of.

NoMad | RESIDENTIAL | MEDIA | Belle Magazine | Our Nomad bathroom gracing the pages of the current issue of Belle Magazine. Editor Matilda Ringrose says, "Stillness is the undercurrent that runs through this Alexander &CO. project. Once industrial storage, then used as an office this space has been softened by Architect Jeremy Bull and transformed into an exquisite inner city apartment with gallery like proportions." Thank you to Tanya Buchanan and Matilda Ringrose for the words and supporting our Practice and industry.

NoMad | RESIDENTIAL | Principal Jeremy Bull says, "This is a collection of views of the concrete bench top at Nomad. We have worked with @concretebespoke for some years, making various shapes from concrete. The material itself is quite magical, taking the form of whatever mould we can fabricate, adding tone, colour, texture, ‘bug marks’. There is something fascinating in the sense of the material’s permanence, its manufactured quality, and yet it is so totally bespoke and hand made.

NoMad | MEDIA | Our Principal Jeremy Bull was recently asked by Austrian design and lifestyle magazine Falstaff Living to share some of Sydney's most inspirational architecture and highlights the Hugh Buhrich House in Sydney's Lower North Shore. "Perhaps the most profound small project to influence my views of contemporary architecture, this house is power packed with un-convention."

NoMad | RESIDENTIAL | Principal Jeremy Bulls writes, "The NoMad building is an old storage facility; industrial concrete frame work and steel framed windows. It is beautiful as it is, and in many ways our brief emerged into an approach that would minimise our intervention and leave the building feeling as ‘found’ as possible. Buildings remain incomplete I think. They are unfinished overtures which change with their owners and use and time."

NoMad | RESIDENTIAL | Principal Jeremy Bull explains the integration of column and Concrete Bespoke bench top in the kitchen of our latest project, "The structural frame of NoMad is beautifully expressive featuring hexagonal columns with outriggers in formed concrete. The opportunity to use them as ‘finish’ as well as ‘base build’ was too tempting to resist. Here, our concrete bench top wraps and connects with the concrete column - one strange masonry shape meeting another."
