DIRT INSTEAD sand vs. straw or shavings in the chicken coop: I asked my grandma which they used in their coops growing up and she said dirt. Yes, the dirt on the ground, no built floor, just on top of the dirt, because dirt has natural sanitizing properties and so they had to whitewash the coop, but didn't have to really ever clean it.

Something like this, would be cool to have mesh on the bottom to stop them from digging up the roots of whatever you plant under (grass?) They can still dig in the coop and could have a chook bath
