Fatimid.According to tradition, Sambuca owes its existence to the Amir ibn Mankud, and this is confirmed by al-Idrisi and later Sicilian sources.Around 1050 a castle was built on top of the hill to defend the town.It has since been demolished. Arab Quarter in Sambuca still retains its original layout,with its road network and densely packed houses still intact.The quarter fits within a triangular area and is an extremely compact collection of buildings
