The Tasmanian devil (Sarcophilus harrisii) is a carnivorous marsupial, now found in the wild only on the Australian island state of Tasmania. The size of a small dog, it is the largest carnivorous marsupial in the world.Males fight one another for the females, and then guard their partners to prevent female infidelity. devil facial tumour disease has drastically reduced the devil population and now threatens the survival of the species, which in 2008 was declared to be endangered.
The tiger quoll (Dasyurus maculatus), also known as the spotted-tail quoll, the spotted quoll, the spotted-tailed dasyure or (erroneously) the tiger cat, is a carnivorous marsupial native to eastern Australia. They live in a variety of habitats but seem to prefer wet forests such as rainforests and closed eucalypt forests.
