1780-1785 child's pink and white striped taffeta fourreau or "false dress" . Girls' dresses like this one were called "false" because they close at the back, with no chest bib or hoop skirt. Dresses like these were more practical for children (despite the whalebone stiffeners sewn inside) while still imitating the fashions and figures of adult women.
