Dr Tom Calma has urged Australians to consider what January 26 means for Indigenous Australians. Many Indigenous people choose to mourn or not celebrate Australia Day, preferring to call it 'Invasion Day' or 'Survival Day'. "Some Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are quite comfortable to use it as a day of celebration," said Dr Tom Calma."Others want to see it as a day of mourning, a day of sorrow, a day where we can help educate the rest of the community about us."

Downsizing numbers can't silence Indigenous protests - I was waiting for the stop when this Aboriginal man approached me for a dollar. I noticed the Aboriginal football guernsey he was wearing, & commented. He in turn complimented the White Australia/Black History t-shirt I had on. The tram pulled up and as I boarded, he yelled goodbye to me. I turned around to look for a seat, & this bloke up the front who had witnessed the end of the exchange took one look at my t-shirt & said 'F**k that…

In the lead-up to Invasion Day 2016, Buzzfeed released a video entitled, Aboriginal People Respond To 'Australia Day'. Generally speaking, I haven't been much of a fan of the various Buzzfeed 'Respond' videos. Many of them seem to be focused on the defensive overthrowing of stereotypes - such as the I'm Aboriginal, But I'm Not… video - rather than taking the unapologetic 'I'm Aboriginal & If You Have Stereotypes About Me, That's YOUR PROBLEM' approach.
