Robert Johnson, a pioneering Mississippi-born blues musician and guitarist. He most likely died from poisoning on August 16, 1938, and is widely considered the first member of the infamous ‘27 Club’. As an itinerant performer, he played mostly on street corners, in juke joints, and at Saturday night dances. Johnson had little commercial success or public recognition in his lifetime, but is now regarded a master of the blues, particularly of the Mississippi Delta blues style.
