Space + Place

Through the use of a limited colour palette we will explore mark making, movement and space and explore our own natural environment here at school. In response we will create a series of drawings and sketches, culminating in a mixed media collage. We will look at the work of 2 renowned local artists who also explore the landscape as part of their practice, John Wolesley and Clinton Nain.

Camel Gate 2007 Work in progress by John Wolsley. I can’t describe John Wolseley’s work easily. I might say that he is an explorer or an archeologist or an artist. His work makes me get lost. Wolsley’s work takes you on an exploration through mark making.

John Wolseley - Gestural marks made with carbonised twigs and branches are interspersed with closely observed drawings of native flora and fauna in fields of coloured wash to form a broad, composite and shifting landscape. In these hybrid images, Wolseley prompts us to think beyond the limitations of human time and to reflect on how we use and experience land.
