Domestic - Coogee House
Three flights of finely detailed concrete stairs are visible through the dark, faceted form of the home.
The eastern elevation shows how the dark bronze screen envelops the masonry structure, but can be folded back as desired.
The faceted angles of the structure give the stairwell a dramatic effect.
At the entry point, there are two options – the front door to the left and the three flights of stairs that cascade down the site to the garden below.
An elevated entry bridge leads from the garage into a transitional space between the protective skin and the masonry structure.
Expressed purlins give the home a “beach feel” and the frosted glazing allows for diffused light without compromising privacy.
Wrapping around the pantry/storage core, the kitchen bench leads from the more intimate family room to the main living area, revealing the ocean view.
A small family room at the western end of the top floor provides an alternative to the main, larger living space and opens out onto a protected courtyard.
The ocean is strategically framed to eliminate all neighbouring properties from view, enabling a more intimate connection with the water despite the home’s suburban context.
