Author map of Blackbird County, a fictional setting in YA novel Feedback. Writers use maps to make sure characters move around like real people. No point having a car chase that goes for half an hour but on paper is only three blocks.
Another visual aid to help me when I describe the characters. Just take a look at Florida's forehead. I couldn't adequately describe how she hates her brow without this picture (nothing wrong with it BTW). You may recognize a few famous faces. Why not? Authors are celebrity fans too.
The house that Feedback main character Ethan James lives in is the one at the back on the left. There's a scene in the book where a Ferrari tears down the street and Ethan thinks the car is about to crash into his living room. I had to find a house that was situated on a curve such as this. Ethan's bedroom window is the one on the top floor which is directly over the bottom window.
Author notes for YA novel Feedback on the CIA. These notes were used as reference material for the character, Dylan Black who dies halfway through a mission. This is the inciting incident in Feedback, the part that without, there is no story.
