Linen, silk and wool sampler by Jean Duncan dtd1826. This sampler has a real naïve charm. The top is stitched with examples of alphabets, numbers and border patterns with rows of family initials beneath and Jean's details under that. On either side are 2 wonderful male and female figures sporting superb hats with floral motifs. The whole thing is surrounded by a strawberry border. Most of the sampler is silk but the pastel blue work, the green lettering and the tree trunks are worked in wool.
