Aeroplane Jelly has a special place in the hearts of all Australians. It could be the nostalgia you feel every time you hear that jingle or it could be because Australia’s favourite jelly has been around since 1927. That’s when tram drier Bert Appleroth first made jelly crystals at home in his bathtub (I know!) and began distributing them along his Sydney tram route

A French spy map of Sydney. Napoleon at one stage contemplated capturing Sydney by sailing troops up the Hawkesbury and seizing Windsor, thus controlling Sydney's food supply. They expected that the Irish convicts would rise and support them. In 1813 Earl Bathurst (Sec of War & Colonies) wrote a confidential letter to the newly appointed Gov Macquarie outlining reports of a very detailed plan uncovered by agents friendly to Britain.

I interviewed Doug and Phyllis Ashton several times while researching and writing Zarconi's Magic Flying Fish. Warm, generous and great storytellers, many of their anecdotes about their lives as circus performers worked their way into my novel. Doug told me many stories about riding the Ashton family circus, Mother, when he was a boy. His stories of Mother helped me create the elephant character of Kali in the novel.
