1st grade Word Identification: Antonyms-This strategy is used to teach students the opposite of words. This strategy uses familiar text that the students already know. It supports word identification because it teaches students to identify words that mean the opposite of words they already know.
Vocabulary 1- Ice Cream Words: Students start by writing a common word on the ice cream cone. Students can now look up synonyms for these words. Creating a large ice cream cone with words that can replace the common words.
Vocab on the move - Play this game during a unit review in reading. The students all have a sentence strip with a vocab word on it. They do not know what the word is though. They have to travel around the room to find a synonym, antonym, example, sentence, etc. The clues are used to determine the word on their heads.
