Here are two different versions of a game where students roll dice to create rectangles and then find the area. In one version students count square units. In the second version they apply the formula for area.
Nets and Composite Figures. In this collaborative activity, students find the areas of nets (rectangular prisms, triangular prisms, square pyramids, triangular pyramids) and composite figures that are made of rectangles and triangles. There is no need to know the formula for the area of a trapezoid to compute any of the areas.
