Pierce-Arrow raised eyebrows in the depths of the Great Depression when it unveiled its radical Silver Arrow show cars. These highly streamlined cars brought the front fender flush with the body, with the proud rear fender covering the wheel and tapering to a point. The intriguingly sinister rear window treatment perched two curved slivers of glass in a periscope-like rear peak. The 1934-'35 Studebaker Land Cruiser brought this backlite concept to production in a less extreme form.
