Baby Barn Owl by Dysartian: The Barn Owl does not hoot (such calls are made by typical owls, like the Tawny Owl or other Strix), but instead produces a characteristic shree scream, ear-shattering at close range. Nestlings are covered in white down all over, but the characteristic heart-shaped facial disk is visible soon after hatching. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barn_Owl #Barn_Owl
I have helped raise 2 set of 6 Barn Owls from less that 24 hrs old (~12 grams) to release. Loved them and so proud to see them released into the wild that they never experienced except for our training!
This has to be one of the wisest looking animals I've ever seen. If he could talk, I bet he'd say: "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." This owl's name is Ralph Waldo Emerson. So he's sort of a big deal.
