Baron Samedi (Baron Saturday, also Baron Samdi, Bawon Samedi, or Bawon Sanmdi) is one of the Loa of Haitian Voodoo. Samedi is a Loa of the dead, along with Baron's numerous other incarnations Baron Cimetière, Baron La Croix, and Baron Kriminel. He is the head of the Guédé family of Loa, or an aspect of them, or possibly their spiritual father. 'Samedi' means 'Saturday' in French. His wife is the Loa Maman Brigitte.
Clearly, baron samedi, but in Obeah we have a similar spirit or likeness called papa bones, unlike baron though, papa is more of a healer-sorcerer he isn't so jovial, he's more intense but still humourous and wry. Often syncretised to bhairava shiva or kal bhairo, and sometimes to a saint (usually st Gabriel, but depends on the island or the person).
Maman Brigitte is the wife of Baron Samedi. She is the mother of the Ghede nation. Brigitte is a powerful cemetery lwa and is given offerings of pepper-infused rum. Like her husband Baron Samedi, Maman Brigitte rules the cemetery and the dead. She is called upon in matters involving healing and to punish the wicked.
