The Hall of Fame remembers former All-American Girls Professional Baseball League star Sophie Kurys, who passed away on Sunday (2-17-13). Kurys sets a professional baseball record with 201 stolen bases in 1946.
Ty Cobb, nicknamed “The Georgia Peach”, spent 22 seasons with the Detroit Tigers, the last six as the team’s player-manager and finished his career with the Philadelphia Athletics. He received the most votes of any player on the inaugural Baseball Hall of Fame ballot, 222 out of a possible 226, in 1936. Cobb is widely credited with setting 90 Major League Baseball records during his career.
