Hamburg is the ideal place for a city break – compact enough to explore by foot yet with multiple attractions worth exploring. However Situated on the bustling river Elbe, Hamburg is the second largest port in Europe. However, the city is home to much more than merchant ships. Grand historic buildings, beautiful lakes and canals, a museum dedicated to chocolate and plenty of Christmas markets are just a few of the highlights a visitor can experience in this epic city.
Wake up and smell the gingerbread on a Christmas markets river cruise
Four years ago I spent a lovely New Year’s Eve exploring Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland. As well as numerous scream-inducing fun fair rides it included (and still does) a magical Christmas market, the first one I’d ever visited. Since then I’ve been to many more but Angel’s Market has remained one of my favourites so yesterday, with the echoes of Auld Lang Syne still ringing in our ears, we hopped on the underground to Marble Arch tube station to see if it was as fun as we remembered.
