Fun facts: The center of this castle was built in 1290. To put that into perspective: That's exactly 200 years before Christopher Columbus first set foot on American ground. It was never destroyed and has remained in the possession of the original family since day one. Pretty crazy to think about.:
The Irish Found West Virginia Before Columbus Found America. Columbus’ voyage to the Caribbean was possibly predated by nearly a thousand years by Christian Irish missionaries, who not only landed on America’s mainland, but explored as far inland as Mingo County, West Virginia.
The Colon Cemetery or more fully in the Spanish language Cementerio de Cristóbal Colón was founded in 1876 in the Vedado neighbourhood of Havana, Cuba on top of Espada Cemetery. Named for Christopher Columbus, the 140 acre (57 ha) cemetery is noted for its many elaborately sculpted memorials. It is estimated that today the cemetery has more than 500 major mausoleums, chapels, and family vaults.
