Arthur Macarthur was a brave teenaged officer in the Civil War. He earned the Medal of Honor at 18 and was a Lt. Col by the age of 19. Years later his son Douglas MacArthur would also earn the Medal of Honor - making them one of only two Father-Son recipients of the Medal of Honor.
1st Arkansas Volunteer Infantry, Hardee Pattern, issued in the spring of 1864 and bears characteristics similar to the Hardee pattern flags issued to the division of Maj. Gen. Patrick Cleburne, Army of Tennessee. It was captured on September 10, 1864, by the 113th Ohio Volunteer Infantry at the Battle of Jonesboro, Ga. In his report dated Sept 10, 1864, Capt Toland Smith noted that "we captured the flag of the Third Confederate Infantry inscribed with the names of seven different battles."
