US Coast Guard Cutter MESQUITE (WLB-305) - rather a black mark on the Coast Guard's reputation, the Mesquite is a good reminder not to let anything become routine. In December 4, 1989, the Mesquite grounded on a reef off the Keeweenaw Peninsula in Lake Superior, ironically, it was there to replace the navigational buoy that marked that very reef.
