The City of Lumberton was created by an Act of the N.C. General Assembly in 1787 and was named the County seat of Robeson County. Lumberton was founded the same year thirty-nine of the fifty-five delegates to the Constitutional Convention of Philadelphia signed and sent to Congress the constitution of the United States. Bisbee, Arizona, was founded as a copper, gold, and silver mining town in 1880, and named in honor of Judge DeWitt Bisbee, one of the financial backers of the adjacent Copper Queen Mine. In 1929, the Cochise County seat was moved from Tombstone, Arizona, to Bisbee, where it remains.
