A building that was originally used as slave quarters on the estate of Shoestring Barker is one of only two remaining in the ghost town of Cahaba. The Kirkpatrick family took over the residence after the Civil War, and after the famly's home burned down in 1935, Clifton Kirkpatrick Jr. added a portico and back wing to the quarters for the family's new residence.
