Darjeeling, West Bengal, India. The famous Darjeeling Hill Country lies immediately south of Sikkim. Many Sikkim students leave Sikkim to attend college or university in Darjeeling, Siliguri, Kalimpong or even further afield in Kolkata.
Darjeeling, India. The northernmost district of the state of West Bengal in eastern India in the foothills of the Himalayas. The district is famous for its beautiful hill stations and Darjeeling tea. Darjeeling is the district headquarters. Kalimpong, Kurseong and Siliguri, three other major towns in the district, are the subdivisional headquarters of the district. Mirik, another town of the district, has been developed as a lake resort since the late 1970s.
Three historic railways comprise a World Heritage site recognizing their importance in trade and technological development. Still in use today, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Nilgiri Mountain Railway, and Kalka Shimla Railway were all begun or completed in the 19th century.
