After all, the customer is always right. Except, it seems, when it comes to genetically modified organisms (GMOs), or, to use the technical legal term, “living modified organisms,” defined by the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety as “any living organism that possesses a novel combination of genetic material obtained through the use of modern biotechnology.” According to the U.S. Center for Food Safety, 70 per cent of the food on our store shelves contains genetically modified ingredients.
