The eye can only sense when light makes contact with it, after being reflected off an object, so it has to bounce off something. Darkness is the term given to the absence of light, so how can light be reflected off absence? Even the color black is something the eye can perceive. You cannot see darkness, this is because darkness is used in the sense of evil, deception, hate, qualities which are impossible to see, because they are not physical objects, but have to be experienced to be known.
