About Johnny Clem who left his family to be a drummer boy in the Civil War. He was one of the youngest drummer boys to bear arms in the Civil War. He left home at the age of 11 and attempted to join the 3rd Ohio Infantry.

The story of young Johnny Clem, widely known as the drummer boy of Shiloh and quite possibly the youngest to bear arms in the American Civil War. Clem left home at the age of 11 and attempted to join the Ohio Infantry.

After the war, Arthur Harris wrote that it had become customary to allow aircrews in the final stages of training to undertake the routine bombing of coastline targets, which could be identified and hit with little difficulty. C 1819.
