Games are a fun way to teach this information, as well as to do some review. It's a great activity idea for tweens and teens.
Roll and Make Whole (Adding Fractions Board Game). You have students all begin from the "start" square. Each student will then take a turn and roll the dice to see what fraction they get. For example, if a student rolls on 2/3, that student must find the first fraction that is either 2/3 or is equivalent to 2/3 beginning from start and move to that fraction. The game then moves on to the next student until someone reaches the "finish" square.
