Mrs. Cornelius Vanderbilt II (neé Alice Claypoole Gwynne) costumed for the W. K. Vanderbilt Ball, held 26 March 1883. The gown was later gifted to the Metropolitan Museum by her daughter Countess Laszlo Szechenyi (neé Gladys Vanderbilt).
Kura skymning (Kura skymning means to calmly sit with the lights off, often the whole household together, and silently ponder while night falls [skymning = dusk] or to sit by a lit candle -- or embers -- and talk softly, e.g. telling old tales. An old swedish tradition that in many ways got lost with the introduction of the electric light, but which some still enjoy or try to revive.)
