Shortly before the battle of Bannockburn English scouts came upon the Scots finishing defenses overseen by Robert the Bruce himself. One of the English knights known as Henry de Bohun charged Bruce wishing to bring honor to his name. De Bohun charged with his lance but Bruce sidestepped at the last second, took his battle axe, and cut into de Bohun's helm.
Dering Roll, c. 1270-1280. The Dering Roll is the oldest English roll of arms surviving in its original form. It was made between 1270 and 1280 and contains the coat of arms of 324 knights, starting with two illegitimate children of King John.
