One example of an allusion is when Julita from "Names/Nombres" gets called Judy Alcatraz. This is an allusion to the prison Alcatraz, where dozens of some of the worst criminals in the country were imprisoned, such as Al Capone. This allusion makes Julita seem very mischievous and somewhat criminal. This is why her parents tell her not to hang out with the people who call her Judy Alcatraz.
Hot milk pot, France, ca.1746-1749, Silver. "The lid's finial, which also serves as a thumbpiece for raising the lid, is in the form of a nightcap tassel, an allusion that would have been appropriate for hot milk, which was served with coffee in the morning." Met Museum
13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them~John13:12-17
In his novel "La Paysanne Pervertie ou Les Dangers De La Ville" (1784) Rétif de la Bretonne mentions "the beautiful" Berry" as an example of how excessive drinking and eating can destroy a girl's charms : "she was born the most delicate nymph and was like a big fat cow when she died". This shows how Berry was rapidly seen as an emblem of female disorder. The preceding sentence is a clear allusion to Berry's sexual bulimia and its natural consequences i.e. her scandalous fecundity !
