Komebukuro (rice bag) were pieced of fragments of precious cotton cloth, and used when rice was given as a gift or an offering. This one (late 19th to early 20th century) has checked, striped and katazome (stencil-dyed) fabrics. A wooden tag has the owner's name. It's unusually large, about 20" on a side. More photos at click
