# Expression In Math

*** I updated these posters and put them on sale to celebrate. 50% OFF! *** I love these posters for two reasons! 1) The illustrations help students understand sixth grade math concepts like ratios and proportions, number sense, fractions, expressions and equations, geometry, and statistics. 2) The bundle has EVERY sixth grade math concept in one small file that I'll never LOSE! Way easier to keep track of than anchor charts!

Pan Balance: Use this tool to strengthen understanding and computation of numerical expressions and equality. In understanding equality, one of the first things students must realize is that equality is a relationship, not an operation. Many students view "=" as "find the answer." For these students, it is difficult to understand equations such as 11 = 4 + 7 or 3 × 5 = 17 – 2.

This explains the Order of Operations. It addresses the Common Core 5th Grade Math Operations and Algebraic Thinking stardard 5.OA.1: Use parentheses, brackets, or braces in numerical expressions, and evaluate expressions with these symbols.

Effective Questions in Math: Some GREAT questions to help students really understand what they are doing!

These number sorts are an amazing way for students to practice seeing numbers represented in a variety of ways

This week we are working on writing and interpreting numerical expressions in math (5.OA.2). Check out our latest blog post for lesson information and resources!
