Flying Among the Stars in Faith Ringgold’s Tar Beach

Faith Ringgold talks about "Creating Tar Beach" (her famous, magical, quilt with a painted center depicting a family picnicing at night on a NYC rooftop, the kids lying on a pallet of quilts looking up at the stars.)

Peter Hatcher in "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" is from NYC and Faith Ringgold is an artist from NYC. I could motivate a collaborative lesson about quilts and pattern or our local community.
