The incredible "bleeding" mushroom - The juice it secretes contains a pigment called atromentin which has been discovered as having anticoagulant properties similar to heparin. Scientists have also discovered the fungus contains antibiotic properties, effective against streptococcus pneumoniae. The mushroom can also be dried and transformed into a plant based dye for cloth, producing an earthy beige color.'
Bales of straw or hay should not be placed inside the chicken coop as insulation. Mold and fungus can grow inside the bales and create a respiratory disaster area inside the coop, in particular, Aspergillosis (brooder pneumonia). Far better to have a cold coop than sick chickens.
PC: Thomas Dickinson | Bear, a sub-adult hawksbill sea turtle, was recently diagnosed with fungal pneumonia. An endoscope, purchased thanks to a generous donation, was used to detect Bear's new condition. We are indebted to all of our supporters for their continuous help. Air embolism in the brain a 42-year-old man with leukemia and fungal pneumonia (panel A) with was in a respirator after acute respiratory failure. Suddenly he coughed up blood and went into cardiac arrest. He was resuscitated, but CT-scan (panel B) showed a large amount of air in the blood vessels of the brain (air embolism). Cardiac resuscitation and mechanical ventilation (perhaps combined with the lung infection) were the likely cause of the air embolism in this patient.
