Homemade Apple Sauce Ingredients: 2 tablespoons butter 1 teaspoon cinnamon 4 McIntosh apples, cored, peeled, and chopped 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 2 tablespoons water 1/4 cup sugar Directions: Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and cook over medium heat until apples become very tender, about 30 minutes. Applesauce may be left lumpy or mashed with a fork to become smoother.
This simple spiced apples recipe is great for breakfast, a warm and yummy side, or served atop pork. If you can't find McIntosh apples, substitute another baking apple such as Rome or Gala, or try a crisp, tart green apple such as Granny Smith.
Roasted Butternut Squash with Green Apples and Candied Walnuts
Tuesday Roasted butternut squash with apples and walnuts. This was really good. Not our personal favorite, but paired excellently with the cider glazed pork. Side note: make sure your butternut squash is ripe - the pieces were a bit hard to be enjoyable.
