Beating the bounds. Hanwell. London Also, to remind all those who do dwell in these parts, where the Parish of Hanwell's boundaries lay, they invite all-comers to go beating the bounds with them. This ancient ceremony is performed on the May Bank Holiday. As a bonus, it starts and finishes at a pub.


April 1940 Many of the women who signed up were from towns and had previous professions in beauty or office duties. At the time there was approximately 130 Land Girls working in Berkshire but more were needed.. For example, Calves Leys Farm in Yattendon had two Land Girls, Miss Phyllis Hill (aged 36) from Hanwell in Ealing and Miss Amy Taylor (aged 16) from Willesden in London, working for the farmer, Mr F.H. O'Neil.
