Old-Fashioned Horehound Candy This was a staple at my late Grandfather's house and we devoured it as kids. I can't find it in stores anymore. So glad I found this recipe. Horehound, the herb, has medicinal properties: cough suppressant and expectorant, gastric tonic and laxative in large doses.

Horehound Candy: supposedly good for asthma. 2 cups chopped horehound leaves 2 cups water Bring to boil, then simmer for 30 minutes. I let it sit overnight, then strained. 1 cup of liquid, strained 2 cups raw sugar Heat until 300 degree on candy thermometer. Pour onto cookie sheet covered with parchment paper. Score while still hot. Sprinkle with raw sugar
