Cervical cancer screening is used to find changes in the cells of the cervix that could lead to cancer. Screening includes the pap test and for some women testing for HPV. the guidelines for HPV testing are different for women age 30 years and older than for younger women. Although HPV infections are extremely common in women under 30, they usually go away on their own before they cause problems. Thus, medical guidelines do not recommend routine HPV testing in this age group.
