Hunger strike

'Temple of the Dog' was formed in Seattle in 1990 and conceived by vocalist Chris Cornell of 'Soundgarden' as a tribute to his friend, the late Andrew Wood, lead singer of Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone. The line-up included former 'Pearl Jam' members with Eddie Vedder & Chris Cornell providing lead and backing vocals. The band released its only album, the self-titled Temple of the Dog, in April 1991.

Silver Hunger Strike Medal. "For Valour, Hunger Strike, Florence Haig". From 1909 those who served prison terms for militant actions were awarded medals for their service to the suffrage campaign. Imitating military honours, the hunger strike medals were decorated with enamelled bars. This woman had been arrested in March 1912 for breaking the windows of a department store. Sentenced to 4 months, she went on hunger strike in June but was released within a few days.
