Geometry Fun through the arts! I have a geometry unit coming up for my 5th graders. I think I will use this idea but include some parameters for my kids. For example, I could require the shapes in the center to be twice the size of the same shapes on the outside - as if looking through a magnifying glass - just to add some more math!
Silhouette collage art lesson: students used flashlights to trace each other's silhouette. After cutting them out, the covered them with magazine clipping that described their personalities and interests.
Beginning a class or school year with this question would serve as a basis for teaching the specific students. Keeping this board up all year would also serve as a reminder to the importance of art. Also, allowing students to read what their peers have written might create critical thinking that they did not initially think of.
