(Between Inverness & Skye) Eilean Donan castle was built in the early 13th century as a defense against the Vikings. By the late 13th century it had become a stronghold of the Mackenzies of Kintail. The castle was restored in the 1920s and is the home of the Clan Macrae.
Culloden near Inverness, Scotland - one of the strangest battlefields (and mass burial grounds) in the world. There is so much juxtaposition between the "ordinary" (like this cottage) and the "extraordinary" (like the mass graves not 100 yards away).
