The indigenous Jewish town of Ein Gedi was an important source of balsam for the Greco-Roman world until its destruction by Byzantine emperor Justinian. The town was rebuilt numerous times throughout the ages until Islamic conquest in the 6th century. The location has been occupied for over 3,000 years.

"The Pyramid of the Magician" in Uxmal, Mexico, is a Maya structure (built in its present form between the eighth century and ninth) extensively rediscovered in the 1840s, four-hundred-years after the Spanish conquest of the Yucatán. Cartagena is a historical port city on the southeastern tip of the Murcia region in Spain. One of the oldest cities in the world, Cartagena has been populated since the Phoenician conquest approximately 227 BC. Due to its prime during the Roman Empire, plenty of ancient historical sites were discovered and after many years, these sites have been regenerated with modern touches. This theater was buried beneath the city and excavated throughout the years.

Construction on the ancient "City of the Persians," or Persepolis, began around 518 B.C.E. on a site chosen by Darius I from lands conquered by Cyrus the Great. It took over 100 years to build and was one of the most magnificent cities in the ancient world. Persepolis is located 70 km northeast of the modern city of Shiraz in the Fars Province of present day Iran.

Novodevichy Convent, Moscow ~ Novodevichy Convent, Moscow ~ The Novodevichy Convent was founded in 1524 by Vasiliy III in commemoration of the conquest of Smolensk. It was built as a fortress at a curve of the Moskva River and became an important part of the southern defensive belt of the capital. The Novodevichy Convent is known to have sheltered many ladies from the Russian royal families and boyar clans, who had been forced to take the veil.
