This Day in History: Sep 30, 1955: James Dean dies. After the impact from the crash, Jimmy had been extricated from the Spyder's mangled cockpit. His left foot was crushed between the clutch and brake pedal and was severely injured from the crash with a broken neck and several internal and external injuries. Corporal Ronald Nelson witnessed an unconscious and dying Dean placed into an ambulance, but in the end was pronounced dead on arrival at the Paso Robles War Memorial Hospital at 6:20pm.
